The outside of the building is done except for the door and final paint touch ups. The front door is being made by a local carpenter. You can also see that electric power has been brought to the building already.

This is the beginning of the drywall installation on the inside.

Here is the builder hard at work installing the plumbing for the grooming tub. The last kennel past the tub will be an isolation kennel for sick or injured briards.

In this rear view of the kennel you can see how thick the walls are. Ramps will be installed after the ground is re-graded.

The interior is now completely painted and ready for the floor tiles.
trailer
The inside is now fully painted and the floor tiles are being laid. All the tiles have been donated for this project hence the colorful pattern.

The ramps are made of solid stone to prevent desert critters from hiding underneath them.

These wall panels were donated and should work well since most rescue briards are house dogs and not destructive.

This is a "kennel" area...the gates are on order.
fencing
The fencing is almost complete.

fencing The Haven is now ready for residents....the A/C is working so well that I had a hard time getting anyone to come out, into the heat, for the pictures.

Many of the briards who spend their time at the Haven are older dogs who have lost their owners through no fault of theirs. These briards are used to living in the home and a kennel life is hard on their older bones. This building will be a comfortable place for them and the younger rescues until they have a new home. They will have a larger inside space (6'x6') with a mattress or love seat for them to lounge on and heat and air conditioning for year round comfort. The average stay of an older dog is 6-9 months so I want them to be as comfortable as possible.

The outside of the building is surrounded in Straw bale and Prefab styrofoam walls and then covered in Stucco. This gives an insulated R-Factor of 40-50. The flooring will be ceramic tile all of which has been donated. The tile floor will be an eclectic pattern of sizes and colors but it shows the outpouring of help I have received from many people who don't even own briards. Materials are being donated and acquired at reduced cost but the remodeling will still need certain retail purchases.

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to support the Briards who spend their time in the Haven, please visit our Donations page for information.
